Best Lake Tahoe Photography Locations

Sand Harbor & National Forest Sessions

Lake Tahoe is a world-class destination, surrounded by the massive Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. While iconic spots like Sand Harbor are at the top of everyone's list, I specialize in finding the hidden gems just off the beaten path. I know how to find secluded spaces where we can avoid the crowds, ensuring your session feels private and relaxed. I also carefully consider the mobility of your family members—whether we have toddlers or grandparents joining us—to ensure the location is as accessible as it is beautiful.

In-Home & Cabin Sessions

Sometimes the best memories are made indoors. I travel to vacation rentals and private homes throughout the entire Lake Tahoe region, from cozy A-frames in South Lake Tahoe to luxury cabins in Incline Village and Truckee. Whether you are in Tahoe City, Kings Beach, or Tahoma, I come to you. This option allows for a seamless, stress-free session where we can capture the warmth of your family gathering by the fire or playing on the deck, all in the comfort of your own space.

Beautiful Lake Tahoe Beach Locations

I have a very judicious approach to choosing the perfect location for your family. The views here are incredible, but factors like wind, lighting, and elevation (often over 6,200 feet!) play a huge role in the success of a shoot. I curate locations that offer that classic Tahoe look—granite boulders, turquoise water, and snow-capped peaks—while ensuring the environment is safe and comfortable for your children. My goal is to give you an experience of lasting beauty, creating a memory you can access every time you look at these photos.

Choosing the Best Season for Your Portraits

Summer Sunsets & Beach Days Summer is the most popular time for family portraits in Lake Tahoe. The weather is warm, the water is crystal clear, and the sunsets are vibrant. I recommend booking sessions from June through September well in advance, as this is the peak season for visitors in Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe.

Winter Snow Sessions There is nothing quite like the magic of a snowy Tahoe backdrop. If you are visiting for a ski trip to Palisades Tahoe, Northstar, or Heavenly, we can capture fun, playful images in the snow. I know the best spots that are easily accessible (so you aren't hiking through deep powder in nice clothes!) and offer stunning views of the snow-capped mountains.

The Importance of Lighting: Golden Hour

You might hear photographers talk about "Golden Hour," and in Lake Tahoe, it is essential. This is the hour right before sunset when the light is soft, flattering, and golden. Because the sun drops behind the Sierra Nevada mountains earlier than you might expect, I carefully schedule our session time based on your specific location—whether we are on the East Shore near Sand Harbor or the West Shore near Tahoe City—to ensure we get that perfect, glowing light.
