Some photo sessions just radiate energy, and this South Lake Tahoe family shoot was one of them. With two young kids, a playful dog, and a bright sunny day, we had all the perfect ingredients for a lively and memorable session.

We started on one of South Tahoe’s beautiful beaches, where the crystal-clear water sparkled under the midday sun. The kids wasted no time running along the shoreline, skipping over small waves, and finding smooth stones to toss into the lake. Their dog happily joined in, darting after them with boundless excitement. These candid moments—bare feet in the sand, wind in their hair, and pure laughter—made for some of the most authentic shots of the day.

From the beach, we explored the nearby boulders that give South Lake Tahoe its signature rugged charm. The kids climbed up and around them like a natural playground, while the family dog found every shady spot to rest in between spurts of energy. The combination of granite rock, turquoise water, and surrounding pine trees gave us a variety of backdrops that are distinctly Tahoe.

Photographing families in South Lake Tahoe is always a treat because of how much variety the area offers in a single location. Here, we captured portraits with the lake’s shimmering blues, playful action shots in the sand, and warm, connected family moments against the natural rock formations.
